If your crawl space has tight clearance — and many do — the Compact70’s 12-inch height is the number that can decide the whole purchase. Both of these units let us put a verified number on the electric bill, but they get there differently, and it’s worth understanding why. The Compact70 publishes a rated wattage — 580 watts, drawing 5.1 amps, with an energy factor of 2.4 liters per kWh — so we estimate its cost our usual way: watts divided by 1,000, times an assumed 12 active hours a day (a 50% duty-cycle assumption, since the compressor cycles rather than running continuously), times 30 days, times the months you run it, times your rate. The catch is that these two figures aren’t a clean apples-to-apples comparison, and we won’t pretend they are: the Compact70’s number is our seasonal estimate built on a duty-cycle assumption, while the E080’s is a standardized full-year measured value. In a crawl space under a quiet room, or in a space where air cleanliness matters as much as moisture, the E080’s documented MERV-8 filtration and known noise figure are a genuine advantage — not because the Compact70 is necessarily worse, but because we can’t tell you what its numbers are, and the E080’s are on paper.
The specs where they’re close
A few differences are real but small. Both run cold to nearly the same floor — the Compact70 to 49°F, the E080 to 50°F — so neither is a standout for a bitterly cold crawl space, and the one-degree gap isn’t worth weighing heavily. Both drain by gravity with no pump included, so if your drainage needs a lift, you’re buying a separate pump either way. The warranties differ modestly: six years on the Compact70, five on the E080.
