The coverage claim is the headline

Its manufacturer-claimed coverage is 4,400 square feet — the largest of the crawl space units we’ve reviewed so far — and it’s rated at 80 pints per day at the AHAM condition of 80°F and 60% relative humidity. Those are two different kinds of number and it’s worth keeping them straight: the 80-pint figure is a standardized lab rating you can use to compare units head to head, while the 4,400 sq ft coverage is a claim built on AprilAire’s own assumptions about a space. A big coverage number doesn’t override the actual geometry and moisture load of your crawl space, which is why our sizing calculator works from volume and climate risk rather than a single square-footage claim.

If your crawl space is genuinely large, the E080’s capacity is the reason to look at it. If it isn’t, that headroom is capacity you’re paying for and powering without needing it.

AprilAire doesn’t publish a saturation capacity for the E080 — the best-case figure some manufacturers report near 100% humidity — so the 80-pint AHAM rating is the single capacity number we have to work with. But the E080 is ENERGY STAR certified, and that changes everything: the EPA’s certified-product registry publishes a DOE-measured annual energy figure for it — 632 kWh per year — which is an actual tested number, not an estimate derived from a nameplate.

That means the operating-cost figure above is genuinely verified rather than inferred. We simply take the measured 632 kWh/year and multiply by your electricity rate; at our default rate that lands around $100 a year, and you can plug in your own state’s rate on the operating cost calculator. It’s a standardized full-year figure, so a crawl space you run only part of the year would cost proportionally less — but either way it’s a real number, which is exactly what we’d want before spending on a unit like this and can’t always get.

The E080 uses a MERV-8 filter, so you know its filtration is meaningfully finer than the minimal screens some crawl space units ship with — MERV-8 is a real particulate-filtration tier, not a token mesh. And its noise level is published at 45 dBA, so if the crawl space sits under a quiet part of the house, you have an actual figure to weigh instead of a shrug. Airflow is rated at 185 CFM, and the unit is ductable, so you can pull air from one corner of the space and push dried air toward the damp end rather than leaving it to circulate on its own.

The temperature floor and the drainage story

The E080 is rated to operate down to 50°F. That’s a workable floor for a lot of crawl spaces, but it’s worth knowing it’s higher than the coldest-rated units in this category — some purpose-built dehumidifiers keep dehumidifying into the mid-30s. If your crawl space gets genuinely cold in winter, that 50°F floor is a spec to weigh seriously, because a unit that stops removing moisture on the coldest, and often dampest, days isn’t doing the job when you most need it.

And skip it if you need pump drainage to lift water to a distant drain, since the E080 is gravity-only and you’d be adding a separate pump.
