How this calculator works
Annual cost = (watts ÷ 1000) × 12 active hours/day (a 50% duty-cycle assumption — the compressor cycles on and off to hold the humidity set point, it doesn't run continuously) × 30 × months running × your state's residential electricity rate. This is the same formula used in every review's operating-cost figure. Rates are July 2026 state residential averages; states we haven't sourced yet fall back to the national average rather than a guess.
