The AprilAire E130 sits at the top of AprilAire’s crawl space line, and it’s built for scale: 130 pints per day at the AHAM condition of 80°F and 60% relative humidity, with a claimed coverage of 7,200 square feet — the largest coverage figure of any unit we’ve reviewed. If you have a sprawling crawl space, a large basement, or a whole-home moisture load to manage from one central unit, that capacity is the reason to look here. If you don’t, this is far more dehumidifier than the job needs. AprilAire publishes no separate saturation rating for the E130, so the AHAM figure is the only capacity number we have, and we won’t manufacture a best-case one to sit beside it.

Weight and size are the real buying constraint

Before the specs, the practical reality: the E130 is big and heavy. Its cabinet is 19.5 inches wide, 30 inches deep, and 18.75 inches high, and it weighs 98 pounds. In a crawl space, that combination is a genuine obstacle — the 18.75-inch height has to clear your floor joists, and 98 pounds is a two-person job to maneuver into a space you often have to enter on your hands and knees. Ducting, airflow, and how quiet it runs

The E130 moves a lot of air — 310 CFM, the highest of the AprilAire units — and it’s ductable, so you can distribute that airflow across a large or compartmentalized space instead of letting it pool near the unit. Encouragingly, it’s rated at 50 dBA, quieter than the mid-size E100’s 55 despite its larger capacity, so noise isn’t the penalty you might expect from a unit this size.

The oversizing trap with a unit this big

The biggest risk with a 130-pint unit isn’t that it’s underpowered — it’s that it’s overkill. It’s tempting to buy the largest dehumidifier you can and assume more is safer, but a badly oversized unit tends to short-cycle: it pulls the humidity down fast, shuts off, and clicks back on repeatedly, which is harder on the compressor and doesn’t hold a steadier humidity than a right-sized unit would. It uses a MERV-8 filter — meaningful particulate filtration, the same tier as the smaller AprilAire units — and carries a five-year warranty. It’s rated to operate down to 50°F, the same floor as the E080 and E100, which means the same caveat applies: in a crawl space that gets genuinely cold, it stops pulling moisture on the coldest days. That 50°F floor deserves extra weight on a unit this size, because you’d typically buy an E130 to be the one dehumidifier managing a large space — and a single unit that goes idle across the coldest, dampest stretch of winter leaves a lot of square footage unprotected when the risk is highest. If your large space also runs cold, a lower-temperature unit is worth serious consideration even at lower capacity. For a genuinely large crawl space or basement — one where 100-pint units would run flat out and still struggle — the AprilAire E130 is a capable, efficient, surprisingly quiet workhorse with the most coverage in its family and the highest manufacturer-stated energy factor of the three (2.9 L/kWh, versus the E080’s 2.8 and the E100’s 2.6), and its ENERGY STAR certification gives it a measured running cost to match. The reservation that remains is its bulk: the 98-pound, 18.75-inch-tall cabinet is a true installation constraint, and the 50°F floor limits it in a cold space. For anything smaller, the E100 in the same family is the more sensible stop short of this much unit.
